- Version 5.00, Released October 16, 1992
- ------------------------------------------------------------
-
- INSTALLING
- ----------
- Three disks are required (or .ZIP files) to install PullDown. The shareware files
- are:
- PD5-1.ZIP through PD5-3.ZIP, Standard Edition
-
- In addition to these three, a fourth may be needed for:
- PD5-RT.ZIP for the Runtime distribution edition
- PD5-LAN.ZIP for the LAN node version with installer and documentation (not shareware,
- but available on the support BBS through private download)
-
- Policy Change
- -------------
- Due to the increasing number of registrations on OLD
- versions of PullDown, anyone registering a version prior to
- 5.00 will be sent a full color brochure on PullDown v5.00
- and a disk to evaluate instead of a full copy of the new
- release.
-
- Also, two other noteworthy policies:
- ====================================
- 1. If you want to avoid downloading all of the three
- disks for PullDown, send $5.00 to MicroDynamics for
- disks by mail. The $5.00 can be credited towards your
- purchase price, if you buy the software.
- 2. Prices paid to disk vendors for PullDown for shareware
- evaluations are refundable, per person, up to $15.00.
- That is, credit for disks purchased to evaluate PullDown
- will be given to users that request it.
-
- About PullDown
- ==============
- Thank you for purchasing PullDown. You have in your hands one of
- the most powerful and easy to use menu shells available today. And,
- while there are indeed many DOS menuing products on the market,
- PullDown is the only one that has the elegance of a completely
- modern drop-down interface. If the landscape of menu products were
- a beach, PullDown would certainly be the most beautiful shell on it.
-
- PullDown is a DOS menu shell system that makes getting in and out
- of applications "GUI like" on almost any PC. The distinguished major
- capabilities of PullDown are indeed impressive:
-
- * Elegantly designed drop-down "GUI like" industry standard
- interface that is fully mouse-aware... much like PC Tools Deluxe
- from Central Point or MS Word from Microsoft
- * Complete menu security, including defined security levels by
- menu item with central user database administration and use
- tracking
- * User-defined help screens for any or all menu items
- * Two menu definition edit modes: an easy to master simplified
- editor and an advanced full-screen programmer's interface with
- context-sensitive hypertext help
- * Very powerful underlying menu definition language bordering on
- major batch language enhancement gives experts maximum
- flexibility and control
- * Conflict-free (i.e. not TSR, terminate and stay resident) program
- design assuring full compatibility and simplified maintenance
- * Requires very little hard disk space and RAM to be installed
- * Available in LAN, developer's distributed runtime, and standard
- single-user editions
-
- Under various stages of development since 1988, PullDown is field-
- tested and quite successful. Rely on it for your menuing needs and it
-
- won't let you down.
- Clear, Sensible Benefits
- Menu shells increase productivity by enhancing someone's ability to
- navigate DOS. They reduce training burdens by allowing non-
- programmers to set up systems for anyone to use, greatly enhance
- "user-friendliness" and provide valuable speed boosts by reducing the
- number of keystrokes used to switch from one program to another.
- But, how does a menu shell fit into tomorrow's environments?
-
- Since PullDown is a fully CUA compliant menu shell, users of aging
- PCs can enjoy the "GUI like" feel of tomorrow's interfaces today. That
- means that anyone using PullDown is better prepared to quickly
- master all Windows-like products. Better yet, PullDown is "well
- behaved" and creates no conflicts running under Microsoft Windows,
- so that PullDown can be flawlessly installed under Windows as a
- replacement for DOS prompt Icon.
-
- PullDown is an ideal stepping stone for tomorrow and an extremely
- useful program today. Whether you are running a LAN with 250
- nodes, have an office of three, or just use one PC at home, it makes
- good sense to use PullDown.
-

-
- DIFFERENCES BETWEEN WHAT YOU SEE AND WHAT YOU WILL GET:
- Registration gives you access to technical support, free updates on the support BBS,
- and timely notifications/discounts on upgrades. The biggest difference between what
- you see here and what you get in the box when you purchase PullDown is in the
- documentation.
-
- This documentation is actually a text-only version of a DTP-style document. The
- documentation that comes in the box when you order is fully illustrated and contains
- many formats which cannot be shown in text.
-
- We apologize for the lack of text quality you will see in the guide on disk. If you
- need full documentation to complete a review or evaluation of the software, contact
- us directly and we will work something out for you. Since we have a thirty day money
- back gaurantee of your satisfaction, you may buy PullDown, look over the materials
- presented with it, and then send it back if you don't like the software.
-
- As always, enjoy!

- Introduction
- ============
- What is the CUA Interface?
- Most major applications today employ drop-down menus to make
- navigation and selection of multiple options easier. Examples range
- from The Norton Desktop for DOS, MS Word v5.5, Central Point's PC
- Tools Deluxe and Borland's Quattro/Pro to MS Windows. Yet,
- despite their diverse functions, they all share a common menu system
- with remarkably similar dialog boxes. This makes them easier to
- understand and use because they all have something called a
- Common User Access (CUA) interface. Until today you could not find
- a menu shell that gives you that same common user access style
- functionality.
-
- PullDown gives you a menu shell with the same basic look and feel as
- today's major applications. In essence, it remains character based
- (i.e. not graphical) yet has the "GUI like" feel of Windows drop-down
- menus. Don't get us wrong... PullDown does not multitask programs
- or replace Windows on your PC. What PullDown does is offer a
- robust menu shell system for DOS that is field tested and quite
- capable of running on any PC hardware platform.
-
- As always, we hope you enjoy our products.
-
- Before You Begin
- Returning your Registration Card is Important
- Taking the time to fill out the registration card and return it now
- gives you:
- * Access to technical support
- * Timely upgrade notifications and discounts
- * Access to private files on the technical support electronic bulletin
- board including free maintenance updates
-
